Shimano chains are a great example of exceptional quality of brand products.
Their chains are not just the most efficient on the market but also very durable. Whether you are looking for more speed or more stability Shimano chains are your perfect choice. You can find a wide range of Shimano chains at Crooze – discover Deore, XTR, Ultegra, Tourney and many other popular models for your MTB, gravel or road bike in Australia.

Premium Shimano chains for every riding style

Bicycle chains are undoubtedly one of the most important parts of your bike, helping to convert the power you put into pedalling into propulsion on the road or trail. It is also a very complex component as the chain has more moving parts than any other component on your bike and Shimano engineers strive to make it work perfectly.

Whether you are using a 9-, 10-, 11-, or 12-speed drivetrain - Shimano has high-quality chains for all of them. For maximum efficiency, it is best to combine a Shimano chain with a drivetrain of the same brand, because when working with speed systems from other brands, performance may decrease.

Shimano's top-tier chains are also treated with Sil-Tec, a patented technology that reduces friction for better drivetrain performance and improves the riding experience itself from the first to the last turn of the pedals. Shimano chains with Sil-Tec slide better over the teeth of the chainring and cassette, so the mechanical process consumes less power transmitted through the transmission. As a result, you can use less energy to overcome mechanical friction, save energy and go faster.

The chain may seem to be a small part of your bike, but it is definitely a key one, so you need a quality chain to get the best performance out of your bike. Shimano chains are made from the finest materials using advanced technology, so they won't stretch, have solid links and excellent quality pins, and provide precise and smooth shifting for many years. Each model comes with unique advanced characteristics to best suit your riding style.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to remove Shimano chain without tool? How to remove Shimano chain? How to remove a Shimano bike chain?

To remove a Shimno chain, you need a specialized tool that will allow you to quickly and easily remove the chain without damaging the links. You should select a chain segment and insert it into the chain removal tool. The segments are loosening as they are disassembled, so you need to pick a different segment each time.

Next, you need to gently twist the tool to squeeze out the pin. It is important not to squeeze the pin out to the end, one side must remain in the link, otherwise, you will not be able to re-install the chain. If you don't have the chain removal tool, you can use pliers, a punch tool and a hammer. Fix the bike chain with a vice or pliers. Take a punch tool and place it over one of the pins in the chain. Use a hammer to push the pin out and separate the chain to remove it.

How to install Shimano chain pin?

To install the Shimano chain pin, connect the two ends of the chain and insert the pin by entering it with the cone-shaped part. Push the pin into place with a chain tool.

The pin must be pushed into the chain quite forcefully since both ends of the chain are thicker than the middle. As soon as the pin is correctly positioned, you can release the chain and bend it in its natural direction to see if the chain moves freely.

Do Shimano chains have a master link?

Some of the latest Shimano bike chains are available with master links. In addition, most new Shimano chains come with a reinforced connecting pin, which makes it easier to install the rivet into place.

Are Shimano chains directional?

Yes, Shimano chains are directional. The easiest way to tell if your chain is directional is to see if there is an embossed logo on only one side. If so, that side should face out (away from the bike). Also, be sure to read the instructions and packaging that comes with your new chain.

So Shimano chains have a master link?

Not all Shimano chains have a master link. In the past, Shimano used only joining pins to hold its chain together, but the latest Shimano 11 and 12-speed chains are available with master links.

Are Sram and Shimano chains interchangeable?

Yes, SRAM and Shimano chains are interchangeable. You can use SRAM's cassettes with Shimano chains and vice versa. However, manufacturers advise you to pair your components for maximum performance. Designed to work together, Shimano chains and Shimano cassettes provide optimal shifting under load. Mixing brands do not provide all the benefits offered by one brand groupset.

Do Shimano chains come with pin?

Yes, some Shimano chains come with a pin. You cannot push the same pin back through the inner and outer plates of a Shimano chain, because pins are bevelled on each side for added strength. By pushing the pin through, the bevel gets flattened out and the link becomes weaker. To resolve this problem, your new Shimano 8, 9 and 10-speed chain will come with a replacement pin, while Shimano 11 and 12-speed chains are available with master links.

Are sunrace chainsets compatible with Shimano chains?

Yes, SunRace chainsets are compatible with Shimano chains. However, mixing brands do not provide all the benefits offered by one brand groupset. Designed to work together, Shimano chains and cassettes provide optimal shifting under load.

Are Shimano chains different?

The difference between the Shimano chain and the other top brand chains is marginal - your choice will always come to personal preference. However, the Shimano is much smoother and provides you with power return, long-lasting performance and durability.

Are Shimano chains good?

Shimano chains offer the best performance on the market while also providing decent durability. Their lightweight, ease of repair, and reliability make them a good investment. You can be confident in your choice of Shimano chain that it will provide endurance, dependability, power return, and longevity. Regardless of your riding level, needs and preferences, you cannot go wrong with a Shimano chain.

What is the best Shimano chain?

It is hard to pick just one Shimano chain as a favourite because all Shimano bike parts are of high-end quality. However, we can say that the Ultegra chain is one of the best 10-speed chains for road bikes. Due to its redesigned inner and outer plates, Ultegra Shimano Chain provides a quiet and smooth shift by improving contact with the rear sprocket. When it comes to 12-speed chains, the Shimano XTR impressed the most. Zinc-alloy steel keeps this chain durable and lightweight, while the reduced friction between the inner and outer links offers better shifting and power transfer, so you're sure to enjoy your every ride.

How to replace a bike chain Shimano?

To replace a bike chain Shimano you will need a new chain, chain tool and a joining pin. First, remove the old chain using the chain splitter: push one of the pins out of the lower stretch of the chain and carefully remove the chain from the bike. Then shift down to the smallest sprocket and chainring and thread the new chain through the front derailleur cage. Next, pull it across and loop it over the rear cassette and round the upper jockey wheel on the derailleur.

Thread it through the cage and then around the lower wheel. To make sure the new chain will operate in any gear, it must be cut to fit your bike. With the chain around the smallest sprocket and chainring, pull the ends together so they meet below the chainstay.

You should find the longest possible length that still generates some tension on the rear derailleur so that it won’t drag, then split the chain using the chain tool. Remember that the Shimano chain will require an outer and an inner plate at the end of the chain. Now, you just need to join the chain. Take the two ends and insert a joining pin using the chain tool. Once the chain is connected, test your bike by shifting through all the gears.

How to install Shimano chain with quick link?

To install the Shimano chain with a quick link insert the chain’s open ends through the link so they oppose each other. Set the pins of each link into the larger slots of the opposing link. Ensure both sides of the link are aligned with each other. Using chain pliers, press the rollers of the link together until they click into place.
