Through research and testing of various prototypes with different levels of Ovality, we have found that a 115% increase (from the top centre) provides the optimal mechanical advantage. This effectively reduces the dead spot and ensures flawless chain retention, similar to our round rings. By shortening the dead spot on the top and bottom of the power curve, you can get back into the power phase of your crank rotation sooner, resulting in two benefits: increased gearing on the downward stroke and a faster crank speed to continuously propel the crank back into the power phase. This is a significant advantage as studies have shown that at least 80% of pedalling power is generated from the downward motion, which utilizes larger muscle groups. The use of physics sorcery adds extra power to the downward stroke without requiring any additional effort, thanks to the reduction of the dead spot and the increased gear size during the larger power phase in the downward stroke. It's a win-win situation.
