Among the standard 440-series stainless alloys with a high carbon content, 440C stands out with its superior strength, hardness, and wear resistance. As expected, this grade is the priciest among the 440 series and demands multiple stages of heat treatment and cryogenic processing to attain its remarkable mechanical qualities. Despite having a 20% lower load capacity and slightly softer nature compared to our typical 52100 chromium steel utilized in most bearings, stainless steel, especially 440C, serves as an excellent choice for wet conditions, regular bike washes, or environments prone to sweat accumulation. To further enhance water resistance against the elements, Enduro Bearings incorporates LLB-type seals and CRC Marine Grease into these bearings. Notably, Enduro's 440C stainless headset bearings mirror the bearings found in various renowned headset brands that come with an extensive 110-year warranty.
The Enduro series of angular-contact headset bearings begin with Chromium Steel races treated with Black Oxide, progress to complete 440C stainless steel and culminate in the XD-15 aerospace-stainless range that guarantees a lifetime warranty, encompassing both races and balls.
