B 542 SS - 1 1/8" Stainless Steel, Torque-Tube Angular Contact Radial Design Bearing - 1 5/16 x 1 3/4 x 9/32 inch
Radial bearings designed for internal headsets are equipped with 440C stainless steel balls and races to ensure maximum resistance against corrosion. In contrast, Torque Tube bearings possess inner races slightly wider than the outer race.
Enduro exclusively utilizes 440C stainless steel balls and races to ensure prolonged durability and exceptional resistance to corrosion, especially in challenging applications and less-than-ideal environments. Among the standard 440-series stainless alloys with high carbon content, 440C stands out for its exceptional strength, hardness, and wear resistance. It's noteworthy that 440C is the most expensive alloy within the 440 series, requiring multiple rounds of heat treatment and cryogenic treatment to achieve its superior mechanical properties. Despite having a 20% lower load capacity and being slightly softer compared to our standard 52100 chromium steel prevalent in most of our bearings, stainless steel serves as an excellent alternative, especially in wet conditions, frequent bike washes, or areas prone to sweat. Enduro Bearings further fortify these bearings with LLB-type seals and CRC Marine grease, providing additional waterproofing against various elements. Notably, Enduro 440C stainless headset bearings are identical to bearings featured in numerous popular headset brands, some of which offer a 110-year warranty.
The Enduro line-up of angular-contact headset bearings commences with Black Oxide-treated Chromium Steel races, progresses to complete 440C stainless steel, and reaches the top-tier XD-15 aerospace-stainless (both races and balls), backed by a lifetime guarantee. These bearings consistently incorporate the largest possible balls in their design, feature dual-lip seals within a micro-groove (labyrinth), and are filled to 90% capacity with high-pressure waterproof grease. Engineered for uniform ball engagement, Enduro Angular Contact (A/C) bearings distribute force across a larger surface area, resulting in reduced friction, minimized wear, and extended lifespan.
