This Angular-Contact, ABEC-5 Bottom Bracket bearing features 440C stainless steel races and balls, filled to 90% with high-pressure, waterproof grease for maximum corrosion resistance. When properly installed (black seal in for BBs) and adjusted, the Angular-Contact design engages all of the bearing’s balls, distributing load over a larger surface area. This reduces wear and extends bearing life, which is especially important in bottom brackets where constantly changing lateral loads are a common cause of premature bearing failure.
Not all stainless steel is created equal.
Enduro exclusively uses 440C stainless steel for both balls and races to provide long life and exceptional corrosion resistance in challenging environments. With the highest strength, hardness, and wear resistance of all standard 440-series stainless alloys, 440C undergoes multiple heat-treatment and cryogenic cycles to achieve its superior mechanical properties. Although slightly softer and with roughly 20% less load capacity than 52100 chromium steel, 440C stainless steel is an excellent choice for wet conditions, frequent bike washing, or exposure to sweat.
This bearing is most commonly used as a direct replacement for Shimano external cup bottom brackets with 24mm spindles.
