The misalignment of the front and rear wheels with the frame may cause poor shifting and tracking in many bicycles. Even after making adjustments to the wheels and derailleur, misalignment may persist if the seat stays, chain stays, and rear dropouts are not properly aligned. Traditionally, a string was used to check the alignment of the rear dropout, but this method is not entirely accurate as the measurement is not taken directly at the dropout.
