Following years of mountain biking with thru-axles featuring large handles that often collided with trail obstacles, we sought an improved solution. The Lightning Bolt-On thru axles provide a premium, streamlined, and lightweight alternative to traditional bulky handles. They come in various sizes compatible with both front and rear wheels on all bikes equipped with thru-axles.
This axle is specifically designed to only replace front Mavic Speed Release thru axles. The thread, a “double lead-in” thread, is proprietary to the Mavic Speed Release system only.
Lightning sets a new standard. Our front and rear Lightning Bolt-On axles provide a stronger, more durable, low-profile, and lighter alternative to standard thru-axles. Their sleek design eliminates bulky handles that catch on trail obstacles while enhancing aerodynamics. Crafted with internal boreholes, these axles reduce weight without sacrificing strength. Installation is simple, requiring only a standard 6 mm hex wrench. Precision-engineered in the USA using aerospace-grade materials and CNC machining, they ensure superior fit and prevent loosening during rides.
KEY FEATURES
- The diameter of this axle is 12 mm and the true length of the axle shaft is 119 mm. Please note: Thru-axle lengths do not equal hub standards. An axle has to be longer than the hub to fit in the frame. A 12×100 hub does not equal a 100 mm long axle.
- This axle is designed specifically as a replacement for the Mavic Speed Release. This includes a special “Double Lead-in Thread” which is only compatible with Mavic Speed Release dropouts.
- Weight: 27 grams.
- The axle is precision CNC machined in the USA from 7075 aluminum and hard anodized for rugged durability. Our axles are built to the tightest standards in the industry.
- No special tools required. Design allows for installation or wheel removal using your standard 6mm hex wrench.
