Not all stainless steel is made equal. At Enduro, we exclusively utilize 440C stainless steel for both balls and races, ensuring prolonged durability and exceptional corrosion resistance, especially in applications and environments that might be less conducive. Known for its elevated strength, hardness, and wear resistance among the standard 440-series stainless alloys due to its high carbon content, 440C stands out. This grade, while the most costly in the 440 series, demands multiple stages of heat treatment and cryogenic treatment to attain its superior mechanical properties. While stainless steel typically exhibits 20% less load capacity and a slightly softer nature compared to our standard 52100 chromium steel employed in most of our bearings, it serves as an excellent alternative for use in damp conditions, frequent bike-washing scenarios, or areas susceptible to sweat. To further enhance water resistance against the elements, Enduro Bearings equips these bearings with LLB-type seals and CRC Marine grease.
In our range of headset bearings, we begin with chromiumm steel, offering an A/C type with a Black Oxide finish. At the pinnacle, we present full 440C stainless steel. All our bearings are meticulously designed with the largest balls possible and feature dual-lip seals that ride in micro-grooves, offering unparalleled protection against sweat and environmental elements. Moreover, they are pre-filled to 90% capacity with high-pressure waterproof grease, eliminating the need for guesswork regarding the grease presence. Employing Enduro Angular Contact (A/C) bearings, we ensure that all balls engage, effectively distributing force over a larger surface area, thereby resisting water pressure and minimizing wear.
